Plain talk on Visitor Experience

Updated: Mar 18

A walk through my Easton Winter Village booth.

At the Easton Winter Village, I have a very simple sales pitch:

"These ornaments are all original artwork and everything is made in my shop, here in Easton."

That sentence is the foundation of the visitor experience at my booth.

Once it's delivered, I take a step away and let my customers look at the artwork while they form a perspective about the meaning of those words.

The first thing is the visual feast of artisan manufacturing and contemporary folk art. Even from afar, the orderly grids of ornaments are visually stunning, while the details don't emerge until one approaches.

After a minute of exploring the details up close, customers get a sense of what they're looking at. These are unique, artisan-made Christmas ornaments in the Pennsylvania Folk Art tradition.

Customers walk up to my displays, ponder for a moment and literally whisper to themselves, "these are so beautiful."

I love it. I want to be free and open with others, and art is my way of doing it.

But if you thought you were getting away without a little something extra, then you don't know ol' Big Daddy Matty.

On the side of my booth is a photo moment, and folks are lining up for it. It's totally free, and the best practice is to ask a stranger to take your photo so everyone can be in the picture.

Well, that's pretty much it. We take all forms of payment, and ornaments are 5 bucks each, including candy canes (which have been described as "very West Elm"). You can't beat it.

So come out, have a warm drink...there are 40 food, drink, retail, and craft vendors...

...We'll be there.
